Vulnerability is the Currency of Connection
“You have to share yourself with your audience. You have to tell stories. You have to invite them to join you on your mission.”
Janelle Lara
Facebook Live is one of the most powerful tools you can use to share your message. It’s what I’ve used to build a multi-six-figure business while only working 20 hours a week...and with an audience of less than 500 people.
I love onboarding new clients. They’re always on the edge of building something big, and there’s an opportunity for me to help them turn their vision into a reality. But the journey to growing a successful business requires you to put yourself in front of others. That’s the cost of making an impact on the world. But the reward is living the life you’ve always dreamed of. So why do so many people still get stuck when it comes to time to step out in front of the camera?
“If you’re not making yourself visible or if your content isn't hitting home, it's because you're not doing it for the people who need it. You're doing it for you.” - Janelle Lara (11:11-11:29)
There’s a simple formula you can use for going live on Facebook (or any other platform for that matter): Tell a story that guides your audience from point A to point B. More importantly, it has to be a story that creates a shift in belief. You show others why they need to join your mission. When you share a belief-shifting story that ends in a joint mission, your audience says, “Yes, let’s do this together!”
Coming Out from Behind the Scenes
I meet so many people who try desperately to stay behind the scenes. They’ve decided that no matter what it is they’re doing, they’re not going to step out in front of others. A lot of this can come from feeling that you’re not worthy of love. My own struggles with anxiety often left me wondering if I really was loveable. The fear of being vulnerable and imposter are two examples of how these fears affect our beliefs.
“You can't fulfill your purpose in hiding. We’re here because we have a mission, we have a story to tell, we have a service to provide.”
- Janelle Lara (15:18-15:33)
If you want to get your message out and fulfill your purpose, you have to get out there. You have to write and you have to get on video. You’ll never fulfill your purpose in hiding. My life’s mission is to empower and educate women who aren’t traditionally educated by building a school for them. That is what drives me to build a business that gives me the money I'll need to build it. It’s what I think about when I’m discouraged or feel like quitting. I think about a mother, around my age, with a daughter who is my daughter’s age. She prays and begs God to give her daughter the opportunities she never had. That’s why I keep building my business and putting myself out in front of the people I want to serve.
People need to feel your passion. They need to see you and look in your eyes when you talk about your mission. That’s why you need to go live. There are people who need to hear your message. They need what you have. So that’s my challenge for you: Think about what you would say if you only had three seconds to say it? That’s the message you’re meant to bring into the world. What would you say in three seconds that could potentially save someone’s life?Go live today, because you simply cannot know whose life you could improve or save. Get out there and invite others into your mission!
