Creating a Movement with Zachary Babcock

“Everyone knows an underdog. People love an against-the-odds success story, and they want to support the underdogs in their journey.”
Janelle Lara

Zachary Babcock is the ultimate underdog success story. He went from living with convicted felons in prison to rubbing elbows with multi-millionaire entrepreneurs. He’s the founder of the Underdog Empowerment podcast, a top 200 rated podcast on iTunes where he Interviews celebrities, professional athletes, and industry leaders. Zachary also helps entrepreneurs launch top-rated podcasts in iTunes in five weeks or less.

Everybody roots for the underdog.

Everybody loves an underdog story. Studies have shown that more people root for the perceived underdogs in different types of contests. If you’ve seen any of the Rocky movies, you’ve probably experienced this yourself. We support underdogs because we want to see someone work hard and overcome the odds stacked against them.

The definition of an underdog can vary depending on the person. People might doubt your ability to succeed as an entrepreneur. They may ridicule you for daring to dream big. But with the odds stacked against you, your underdog mentality can be the fuel that propels you towards success. As you grow and succeed over time, your desire to prove others wrong is replaced by the desire to become the best possible version of yourself.

“An underdog has a grandiose vision, even with the odds stacked against them. No matter how many people count them out, they’re committed to winning and getting the life they dream of and deserve.”

- Zachary Babcock (16:19 - 16:35)

When you’re just starting out, you’ll likely go through a period of significant uncertainty. You may try and fail in many ventures. You might lack the skills needed to market and sell your products or services. You may have some success only to realize that what you’re doing isn’t aligned with your vision.

How to create a movement as an underdog.

Whatever your obstacles might be, you need to have a compelling enough reason to keep pushing through. When your “why” is strong enough, you’ll figure out a way to succeed. Maybe you’re inspired by your family, and you want to be an example for your children. You could be driven by a deep desire to prove the naysayers wrong.

Regardless of what makes you persist as an underdog, it’s never about yourself. It’s always about empowering other people to reach their goals. You should have a clear idea of who you’re helping. Your mission is to create a movement to give them the tools to thrive. As long as your focus remains on your audience, you’ll find that others are willing to join and collaborate with you on your mission.

“I wanted to lead by example and show my twin boys what it means to be a real man for the family, provide for them, and live a life full of meaning and purpose.” - Zachary Babcock (10:00 - 10:21)

Have you ever felt like the underdog? Is there someone in your family that overcame the odds so their children and grandchildren could have better lives? Take some time this week to think about what lessons you can learn from the underdog success stories in the lives of others and your own.
